The Storm Series

Thursday, August 7, 2008 was a hot, humid, stormy mid-Summer's day. It is also a day I will never forget.

I was at the reservoir in Farmington for a hike in the late morning. We'd had a string of hot, hazy days and thunderstorms were forecasted for the afternoon. The plan was to get my hike in before it either became intolerably hot or the storm hit.

As I got out of the car, I heard thunder rumbling ominously in the distance. I started walking and looking up at the sky. The wind picked up and, on impluse, I turned to look behind me.  Dark, fast moving storm clouds were approaching. As always, I had my camera with me and I pulled it out of my pack and started clicking away. In only minutes the sky went from bright blue with high, white clouds to a nearly black, dark, swirling mass.

The raw, elemental energy expressed in this brief, three minute span of time inspired my current work,The Storm Series. Those few minutes in August were an awesome display of nature's power and beauty that I was privileged to witness and will not soon forget.
